Class Description
This workshop series is open to all students with 1 year of current Iyengar class experience. Don't be put off by the longer sessions, in fact most students find time flies in a workshop as it allows as you focus through a variety of approaches to practice. Focussed work is generally fascinating and brings a greater appreciation of why Iyengar yoga is quite so particular about the alignment, extension and sequencing of poses. Cost £100 for all 4 workshops 1000-1230 on Saturday 28th of December 2024 WORKSHOP 1 : SOUND BATH and GENTLE YOGA With guest teacher Karen Watt of Edinburgh Sound Massage. She has been a sound practitioner for nine years after receiving a sound massage with Nepalese singing bowls on a yoga retreat herself. This single treatment was the catalyst for her exploration more into sound and vibration and their effects on our physical, mental, emotional and subtle body. Through the sound and vibrations of gongs, singing bowls and more... we are brought into a changed state of resonance where tensions are dissolved, the mind is calmed, the spirit is lifted and we enter a state of deep relaxation and equilibrium. 1000-1230 on Sunday 29th of December 2024 WORKSHOP 2 : IMPROVE YOUR INVERSIONS with Julie Aimed at students comfortable in a 4-5 minute in sarvangasana (shoulder balance), and who have been introduced to sirsasana (head balance in class). We will look at your poses and use a variety of methods to help move your inversions towards 'Sthira sukham asanam' Yoga Sutra 2:46 which means "stability with relaxation, dignity with grace". 1000-1230 on Saturday 4th of January 2025 WORKSHOP 3 : EXPLORING TWISTS with Julie Twisting asanas are more than just a revolved action of the spine. There are many more subtle elements of spiralling and rotation to be discovered in poses that may surprise you. Expect an enlivening practice. 1000-1230 on Sunday 5th of January 2025 WORKSHOP 4 : ROPE WORKSHOP with Julie Using wall ropes to enhance extension and alignment, using ropes to change the fulcrum of a pose for release or indeed action and generally have a joyful practice. “Your body exists in the past and your mind exists in the future. In yoga, they come together in the present.” B.K.S. Iyengar
