Previous Workshops and Events

Updated: Jun 29

Here at Yoga on Tay, we love introducing you to some of the wonderful Iyengar Yoga teachers from across Scotland, the UK and the rest of the world.

Practising Iyengar Yoga opens the door to the Iyengar Yoga community that exists at Yoga on Tay, and the much wider community across the UK and many other parts of the world.

Here at Yoga on Tay we host international teachers, organise workshops, retreats and also the occasional social gathering. Through our Senior Teacher Julie Anderson, we regularly host national and international visiting teachers for you, our students to benefit from valuable teaching experiences as well as the opportunity to come together.

Here's a flavour of what we get up to here at Yoga on Tay.

Holy Isle Retreat, Isle of Arran

Julie Anderson has been hosting 3 day Iyengar Yoga retreats on Holy Isle for several years. It's always a popular retreat with a great mix of people in a wonderful location. Here some images from this year's retreat in 2024.

Feedback from some first time attendees in 2024:

Thank you again for such an uplifting time on Holy Isle. I came to deepen my understanding and practice …..building on the brilliant foundations Jo has provided - and will continue to do so. You have helped a lot.

You showed great skill in accommodating so many different ‘bodies’ and experience it was quite incredible. My motto from the weekend which I have adopted from a bench in the Mandala garden. ‘Gratitude turns what we have into enough’

Feedback from one of our regular Holy Isle Retreat attendees

It was the perfect weekend Julie, thank you so much for your yoga wisdom and great teaching and to everyone who made it so special xxx

International Visiting Teachers

Ali Dashti is a Senior Teacher based in Bern, Switzerland and Pune, India. He trained directly as an apprentice of BKS Iyengar and was an instructor at RIMYI since 1986.

Ali has been regular visitor to Scotland since 2000 with workshops at Yoga on Tay in 2018, 2020, 2022, 2023. Here's a selection of images from those workshops.

Richard Agar-Ward

Richard is a Senior teacher based in Bath England. We were fortunate to being able to host a workshop for him here in Fife in March 2023.

Celebration Workshop January 2023

In January 2023 we celebrated 5 years of Yoga on Tay being a dedicated Iyengar Yoga studio and 25 years since our Senior Level 3 Teacher Julie Anderson became a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher,

Rope Workshop

Yoga on Tay also offer specialised workshops and classes for our students. These have included anatomy based classes, twists, inversions and backbends. The most recent was a series of workshops taking a more focused look at Kurunta Yoga (yoga with the ropes) which translates as Puppet Yoga. The ropes offer support and further insight into both basic asanas and some of the more advanced poses.

And no collection of past events would be complete without some of our social gatherings. Here at Yoga on Tay, we really believe in the community aspect of both our yoga and the Studio. Being based locally on the High Street in Newport on Tay, together with our students helps create a wonderful atmosphere in class and a sense of a yoga community here at Yoga on Tay.
